Installing a septic tank in your property can be the best way to manage wastewater.
There are regulations in place to ensure that you get the most of your system without affecting nearby properties.
Septic tank installation should be done by a team of professionals who are aware of the requirements and that can comply with them.
What you need to Know about Septic Tanks
When a septic tank is being installed inside building controlled areas then you will need to comply with the Building Act.
This means that a registered certifying plumber or hydraulic engineer will need to certify the design and the installation.
If the septic tank installation is taking place during the building works for a house or industrial property, we will need to provide the system installation, design and certification documents to the building certifier.
A Department of Health wastewater works design approval is needed if the septic tank is for a commercial property.
If there is no other building work happening at the same time, the plumber must contact the Building Advisory Services before commencing the project.
They will also need to arrange a mandatory inspection of drainage work and not cover or fill over the work until it has been inspected.
Before the works begin, the plumber must submit a notification of installation of an on-site wastewater system.
When the work is finished, they need to submit the notification of installation completion.
